Introduction

India’s marketing ecosystem is evolving rapidly. Artificial intelligence, data analytics, immersive technologies, and changing consumer behaviours are driving this transformation. As a result, brands are moving beyond one-way communication and creating personalised customer journeys.

India also presents a unique growth opportunity. With a population exceeding 1.4 billion and a median age of approximately 29 years, the country offers one of the world’s largest digitally connected consumer markets [1].

India’s Digital Economy and AI-Driven Marketing

India’s digital economy provides the foundation for AI-driven marketing innovation.

The country has one of the world’s largest digital populations. Moreover, India has more than 800 million internet users and over one billion mobile connections (Meltwater). Consequently, consumers discover, evaluate, and purchase products through multiple digital touchpoints.

India’s startup ecosystem continues to accelerate innovation across martech, adtech, fintech, and digital commerce. Government initiatives such as Digital India and the IndiaAI Mission are further strengthening the digital infrastructure [10][11].

1. Augmented Reality and Immersive Advertising

Augmented reality is transforming how consumers interact with brands.

AR converts passive audiences into active participants.

The Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance campaign, “Aap Boodhe Hoke Kya Banoge?”, redefined retirement planning using AI selfie + age-transformation billboards and 3D anamorphic displays. Executed by Hyphen Brands and PLATINUM OUTDOOR LTD , it converted out-of-home (OOH) media into experiential storytelling.

AR/VR projection systems, motion-tracking, and 3D holography now power immersive DOOH campaigns for Nike , The Coca-Cola Company , and Aditya Birla Group and are transforming passive viewers into participants.

Moreover, brands increasingly use 3D displays, holographic projections, and AR filters to create memorable brand experiences.

2. Personalised Advertising Based on Identity

Personalisation has evolved far beyond demographic targeting.

AI systems analyse browsing patterns, purchase behaviour, location data, and engagement signals. Consequently, brands can deliver highly relevant content and offers. In addition, technologies such as facial recognition and behavioural biometrics enable more customised experiences.

Apple ’s Face ID and Amazon Go Stores exemplify frictionless identity verification, while AI behavioural biometrics extend personalization beyond clicks, recognizing gait, gesture, and voice.

However, privacy, transparency, and consent remain essential considerations.

3. Predictive Analytics and Data Profiling

Predictive analytics is one of the most influential AI marketing trends in India.

These systems analyse historical and behavioural data to anticipate future actions. Recommendation engines used by Amazon and Spotify demonstrate the power of predictive intelligence [5][6].

Amazon’s and Spotify ’s recommendation engines use collaborative filtering and neural network models to forecast individual preferences. In advertising, Google and Meta deploy predictive bidding algorithms integrating CRM data, browsing history, and purchase patterns. The outcome: hyper-relevant ads that improve ROI and reduce churn through real-time personalization.

 4. Location-Based and Proximity Marketing

Location intelligence is bridging the gap between physical and digital experiences.

Technologies such as GPS, geofencing, NFC, and beacons allow brands to engage consumers based on real-time location. As a result, campaigns become more relevant and actionable.

Moreover, Indian adtech firms continue to strengthen hyperlocal marketing capabilities through proximity-based targeting and behavioural analytics.

Indian ad-tech pioneers like InMobi Advertising , Affle (India), mCanvas , Beaconstac, and TELiBrahma Technologies deliver hyperlocal campaigns that map real-world movement to online behaviour. For example, Raymond Limited’s AI-driven mobile campaign delivered contextual offers to users within store radius, boosting walk-ins and conversion rates. This “phygital” integration exemplifies marketing’s shift from awareness to action in milliseconds.

5. Voice and Gesture-Based Interactions

Voice-enabled experiences are rapidly gaining popularity.

Consumers increasingly use voice assistants for search, shopping, and customer support. Therefore, brands must optimise content for conversational interactions.

Voice assistants such as Amazon Usa Alexa and Google Assistant now drive commerce via conversational AI.  Gesture control devices like Microsoft Kinect enable immersive retail and gaming applications, emphasizing human-machine fluidity.

Additionally, AI-powered voice bots improve customer service and lead generation while enhancing user convenience.

6. Neuro-Marketing and Emotional Analytics

Neuro-marketing provides deeper insight into consumer behaviour.

Emotion AI, eye tracking, and facial analysis technologies help marketers understand subconscious responses.

Platforms like Affectiva and Realeyes measure facial expressions and eye movements during ad tests for brands like Unilever and PepsiCoEEG and eye-tracking heatmaps help optimize UX layouts and visual hierarchies, ensuring message retention.

These technologies are increasingly used to evaluate advertising effectiveness and user experience performance [7]. However, organisations must apply these technologies responsibly and ethically.

7. Virtual Influencers and Synthetic Media

Virtual influencers are redefining influencer marketing.

India’s virtual influencer ecosystem continues to expand. As a result, brands can leverage AI-generated personalities for greater creative control and campaign consistency.

India’s first virtual influencer, Kyra from FUTR STUDIOS – India’s First Virtual Human Company FUTR STUDIOS founded by George Tharian and Himanshu Goel, symbolizes the fusion of technology and creativity. Computer-generated and AI-operated, Kyra interacts with followers in real time, posting narrative-driven fashion and lifestyle content. Her “always-on” persona offers complete brand control, scalability, and risk-free representation.

From a strategic viewpoint, virtual influencers deliver:

  1. Creative Governance – Predictable messaging and tone.
  2. Scalability – Global campaigns without physical constraints.
  3. Personalization – Emotionally resonant storytelling for micro-audiences.
  4. Omnichannel Readiness – Native integration with AR/VR and metaverse experiences.

However, ethical questions do persist regarding authenticity, representation, and human replacement,. Yet the trend underscores India’s entry into the synthetic media economy.

8. Generative AI in Creative Production

Generative AI is revolutionising content creation.

Marketers now use AI tools for copywriting, image generation, video production, and campaign ideation. Consequently, content production has become faster and more scalable.

A notable example is  Coca-Cola FEMSA’s “Real Magic campaign, which used generative AI like DALL-E Open Ai and Stable Diffusion AIto encourage consumer participation and creative collaboration [8].

Furthermore, generative AI supports multilingual content creation, which is particularly valuable in India’s diverse linguistic landscape.

Technology and Ecosystem Drivers

Several technologies are accelerating AI-driven marketing adoption.

5G networks enable richer digital experiences. Meanwhile, cloud computing supports large-scale data processing. Edge AI further enables real-time decision-making.

Additionally, India’s digital public infrastructure, including Meanwhile, India’s Global Digital Public Infrastructure DPI)—@Aadhaar, DigiLocker , and Open Network For Digital Commerce (ONDC)

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 is also encouraging responsible data practices. As a result, trust is becoming a key competitive advantage [15].

Conclusion

AI marketing trends in India are creating a new era of customer engagement.

Predictive analytics, generative AI, immersive technologies, virtual influencers, and voice interfaces are transforming brand communication. Moreover, India’s rapidly growing digital economy provides the scale required for these innovations [2][3].

However, sustainable success requires responsible innovation. Therefore, brands must prioritise privacy, transparency, and consumer trust while embracing technological advancement.
